Urban Encroachment & Invasives in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Native habitat is
threatened by the introduction of non-native plants and animals that
invade the open space and displace native plants and animals from their
natural homes. Friends of Los Penasquitos are actively involved in the
removal of invasive plants and the restoration of native plants. In
some cases herbicide is applied by City staff to control aggressive
invasives. The City of San Diego Open Space Division develops Natural
Resource Management Plans to determine where and how these disturbed
areas are restored. Join a Friends of Canyons in your area.
