An Afternoon by the Lake, Varenna, Italy 2014 Lago di Como in Northern Italy has many beautiful villages along its coast. Varenna is
one of the most peaceful and relaxing villages we have visited so far. By
September most of the tourists have gone home, yet the small shops,
galleries and cafes remain open. We arrived in Varenna by train which
hugs the mountains on the eastern side of the lake. We had a beautiful
two bedroom apartment that had a balcony which looked down to the lake.
This was a perfect place to begin our adventures. We made several hikes
in the hills behind Varenna and the excellent ferry system took us to
other destinations around the lake.
