The Falls of Giessbach, Brienz, Switzerland On a recent trip to
Switzerland we took the ferry from Niederried on Lake Brienz to
Giessbach. A short hike starting from the ferry landing took us along
the beautiful river where many falls, both large and small, make their
way down the steep valley. At mid-point we passed a wonderful grand
hotel which overlooks the largest of the cascades. We continued on up
the trail which crossed the falls at several levels and at one point
allowed us to walk behind the falls with views of the hotel and valley
below. On the return loop we enjoyed a glass of wine at Hotel Giessbach
and enjoyed the views of the falls and Lake Brienz. For those who
prefer not to hike there is a funicular that will take you up to the
hotel.
